Single Engine Command Instrument Rating (SECIR)

The Single Engine Command Instrument Rating allows pilots to fly in Instrument Meteorology Conditions (IMC) in a Single Engine Aeroplane (SEA). Flying IFR adds an additional level of safety in deteriorating meteorology conditions as well as enhanced procedural performance.

 

Requirements for the issue of a Single Engine Command Instrument Rating

  • 40 hours instrument time total

  • 10 hours cross-country dual instrument time

  • 5 hours night flight total

  • 1 hours of night flight as pilot in command

  • 50 hours cross-country flight time as pilot in command
