Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR)

The Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating allows pilots to fly in Instrument Meteorology Conditions (IMC) in a Multi Engine Aeroplane (MEA). Flying IFR adds an additional level of safety in deteriorating meteorology conditions as well as enhanced procedural performance. The MECIR is also the minimum requirement for most charter operators.

Requirements for the issue of a Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating

  • 40 hours instrument time total

  • 10 hours cross-country dual instrument time in a multi engine aircraft

  • 5 hours night flight total

  • 1 hours of night flight as pilot in command

  • 50 hours cross-country flight time as pilot in command
